💎 A Chianti That Won't Break The Bank 💎
We love a good Aldi find - from heated throw rugs to three-person kayaks that nobody knew they needed. But this time, we wandered past the middle aisle mayhem and straight to the little corner near the front of the store for some investigating.
We finally found a Chianti under $15!

Aldi's Got a Superiore Surprise 😲
🍷 Corte Carista Chianti Superiore (2021)
We’ve been on the hunt for a good Chianti under $15 for a while now, and let’s just say, they’re about as common as a quiet Saturday morning at Bunnings. Aldi has been known to sneak a few gems into their liquor section, so when we spotted this Corte Carista Chianti Superiore (2021) for $11.99, we figured - why not?
Chianti Superiore wines are known for their intense flavours - dark fruits, a bit of spice, sometimes a hint of vanilla from oak aging. This one leans heavily on the fruit, maybe more than we would like. That said, for $11.99, we’re not exactly expecting it to rewrite the wine history books.
It does have enough body though to pair beautifully with rich pasta dishes - think lasagna or a hearty Bolognese. The fruitiness of the wine will balance the richness, making every bite feel like a trip to Italy (without the 24-hour flight and excess baggage fees).
Now, let’s talk about the bottle - because if we judged wine purely by looks, this would be in the VIP section. The dark label, gold lettering, and official-looking DOCG stamp make it look far fancier than its price tag suggests. The matte red lid is a classy touch too. The only giveaway is the “specially made for Aldi stores” on the back. But hey, if you pour it into a decanter first, no one needs to know.
In Australia, Chianti at this price is practically unheard of (Dan Murphy’s doesn’t even stock one under $15). So although it’s not the most complex drop out there, it ticks enough boxes to earn its place in the Aldi trolley, right next to your Special Buys snow gear.
VITR Official Score: 7.5 / 10
👍 Reality vs Perception: Aldi price, fancy bottle. You probably could fool your dinner guests with this one.
👩🎨 Label Aesthetics: Simple, sleek, and looking way more expensive than it actually is.
👴 Comparison to Nonno’s Home Brew: No Italian wine is "Superiore" to Nonno's according to him. But interestingly, based on taste alone, this would have to be one of the closest we've had to his.
🪩 Fit for an Engagement Party: A solid choice if the couple is more about the savings than the showboating.
🤑 Keep the Change: Not enough change for when Aldi’s ski gear drops this winter, but they do have a few decent cheeses for under $3.
Real Talk
📖 Fake It 'Til You Make It
DOCG: A fancy way of saying “This wine meets the good stuff standard.” Short for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, it’s Italy’s top-tier wine classification.

💡 Sip Tip
Wine Cubes: If you're organised enough, instead of regular ice, freeze wine in an ice cube tray. Add these wine cubes to your glass to chill your wine without diluting it.

🍿 Sip & Snack
Sparkling & Burger Rings: Fancy meets footy night. The crisp bubbles slice through the salty, cheesy goodness, resetting your taste buds for the next crunchy handful. A high-class pairing for a low-effort snack.
