💎 A Gem That Didn't Get Away 💎
Some wines are all about the label, some are all about the taste, and sometimes, you find one that nails both. This week, we’re giving an Aussie salute to a fresh, zippy white that practically demands to be cracked open alongside a seafood feast.
Turns out, Margaret River’s finest can come from a bit of teamwork. This one blends grapes from both WA and SA, which we found interesting enough to give it a crack.

A Reel Good SSB 🎣
🍷 Queen Snapper Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (no specified vintage)
After a recent fishing trip where the only thing we caught was sunburn, this label jumped out at us. Shame the fish didn’t jump into the boat quite as enthusiastically.
We’ll be honest...if you lined up a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and a straight Sauvignon Blanc, we probably couldn’t pick them apart in a blind tasting. But what we do know is that this little blend went down a treat.
There’s something about this wine that just makes you want to be sitting by the beach, seafood platter in front of you, soaking up the sun. Fresh, crisp and a touch of citrus...it could not be more at home with a spread of fresh prawns, grilled barramundi, or a cheeky fish and chips run.
For a Margaret River drop, you might expect a bit of a price tag, but nope, this one’s a total bargain. We picked it up for $11 at BWS, but Dan’s has it at a ridiculous $8.99 every day. At that price, you could grab a bottle for tonight and another for that ‘just in case’ section of your fridge.
Onto the label, a simple but artistic masterpiece. It's doesn’t shout Australia like a flag or kangaroo, but somehow still makes us want to belt out I Still Call Australia Home. It’s vibrant, bold, and nails the vibe of what’s inside the bottle - fresh, lively, and impossible not to like.
So if you’re after a light, easy-drinking white that won’t break the bank and pairs perfectly with seafood (or just an afternoon in the sun), please do yourself a favour.
VITR Official Score: 7.5 / 10
👍 Reality vs Perception: While it doesn't come across as premium, it's also not going to come across as cheap. A good choice if you're a bit unorganised and need to pick something up on the way to a BBQ.
👩🎨 Label Aesthetics: Like a mini art exhibit for your fridge. Bold, bright, and full of personality.
👴 Comparison to Nonno’s Home Brew: I'm not entirely sure he'd be pleased if we turned up with this...red seems to be the only colour he recognises.
🪩 Fit for an Engagement Party: While this SSB could play a role, we'd probably recommend saving this one for a summer afternoon.
🤑 Keep the Change: This scores an extra 0.5 for being available every day at under $10, and leaves plenty of change to add a cantaloupe or selection of citrus fruit.
Real Talk
📖 Fake It 'Til You Make It
SSB vs SBS: It's like asking "steak and eggs" or "eggs and steak" – either way you get both, but the first one tells you which one's the main event!

💡 Sip Tip
Don't Over-Chill: Keep your whites from turning into ice cubes. A cold wine is refreshing, but too cold and it's like drinking frozen tears with less flavour.

🍿 Sip & Snack
Semillon Sauvignon Blanc & Grilled Veggies: Assuming you've already got the seafood sorted, some grilled veggies on the side will close the deal.

Until Next Week, Cheers 🍷
Some labels just call out to be grabbed, and we were pleased to have reeled this one in.
After this Rosé we tried a few weeks ago, we've been on the lookout for more like it. So if you know of an amazing Rosé under $15, please hit us up.
P.S. Have a wine-loving friend? Don’t be shy, share the love and forward this on! 🍷
