💎 The Hunt Continues... 💎
We had another bottle lined up for this issue, but as fate would have it, someone slid this one across our radar and we figured when a mate gives you a hot tip, you follow through. So today we’re off to Italy, with a crisp white that might just become your winter dark horse.

Veneto's Classy Little Secret 🤫
🍷 Torresella Pinot Grigio (2023)
This week’s sip comes to us from Veneto, up in Northern Italy - a region we haven’t covered yet in Vine in the Rough, and clearly, that was a miss on our part. The Torresella Pinot Grigio (2023) is currently going for $13 (normally $15.99), which nudges the top of our budget but still leaves room for a cheeky snack or two.
The bottle itself has a low-key kind of class about it. You won’t find any glittery labels or over-the-top fonts screaming for attention. Instead, it carries itself like someone who knows they look good and doesn’t need to post about it. That DOC certification on the label helps back that up too - basically Italy’s way of saying, "We take our wine seriously."
Now let’s talk taste. We were into this one straight away. It’s clean, crisp, and seriously refreshing - like that first bite of cold fruit straight from the fridge. We got flavours that reminded us of pears and green apples, with just enough zip to make your mouth sit up and pay attention. It’s the kind of wine that’d make a simple lunch feel a bit fancy, without being too serious about it.
With all that going for it, you might be wondering what the catch is. Well, it’s not so much a deal-breaker as it is a gentle observation - it’s just not particularly memorable. You enjoy it, you nod in appreciation, you might even recommend it to someone this week...but will you remember it next year when someone asks about your favourite Pinot Grigio? Maybe not.
Still, don’t let that stop you. If you're after something refreshing, polished, and easy to share with mates who claim they "don't normally drink white," this one fits the brief nicely. Especially on a crisp winter’s day, it’ll absolutely hit the spot.
VITR Official Score: 8 / 10
👍 Reality vs Perception: Tastes like it flew in direct from Venice, but doesn’t charge you airport wine prices.
👩🎨 Label Aesthetics: Quietly elegant, like a linen shirt at a long lunch.
👴 Comparison to Nonno’s Home Brew: Nonno would question why it has a barcode, but secretly be impressed.
🪩 Fit for an Engagement Party: Ideal for the nibbles and mingling stage.
🤑 Keep the Change: A few coins shy of our $15 budget might just leave you enough for a wedge of brie or a sourdough stick.

📖 Fake It 'Til You Make It
Veneto: A wine region in Northern Italy that’s basically the cool cousin at the family BBQ—stylish, chill, and always brings good stuff.

💡 Sip Tip
Leaner = Lighter: If the meat’s on the leaner side, go for a lighter red. No need to overthink it.

🍿 Sip & Snack
Pinot Grigio & Corn Fritters: A crispy, slightly sweet snack like corn fritters really lets this wine shine, especially with a dollop of sour cream.

Until Next Issue, Cheers 🍷
Next issue, we’re heading back into red territory with a bottle of Sangiovese. Look out for that one!
